You may have leaky gut syndrome if you have:
Leaky gut syndrome occurs when the intestinal barrier in your gut doesn't function properly. The barrier is formed through tight junctions, which are the gate keepers from the gut to the bloodstream. When these tight junctions loosen, gastrointestinal issues can occur. When this barrier doesn't work, things get into the bloodstream that shouldn't be there. The result is inflammation, joint pain and allergies.
Glyphosate (e.g. RoundUp herbicide) is the major cause of leaky gut syndrome in the United States. Glyphostate is found in genetically modified foods such as high fructose corn syrup, soy bean oil and canola oil as well as conventional meats that are typically "finished" with GMO corn (e.g. fast food burgers). Glyphosate stimulates the release of a protein called zonulin that degrades the tight junction integrity. Gluten can also cause leaky gut syndrome by this same mechanism. With increased permeability of the tight junctions, toxins and inorganic materials are transmitted into the blood stream leading to systemic inflammation.
Since tight junctions also protect the blood-brain barrier, when glyphosate or gluten enters the bloodstream, the blood-brain barrier integrity can be degraded as well, and cause a number of neurological issues such as brain fog and migraine headaches.
What to do about leaky gut?
Clearly, eliminating harmful foods should be a first step towards healing your gut. Taking RESTORE should be a second step for people who suspect they have leaky gut. RESTORE has been shown to repair of integrity tight junctions after glyphosate exposure by 300%, as seen in the figure below.
